From inspiration to creation and application,

at Colormusing, it’s all about HUE!

Everything I create starts with a color palette.

And the same is probably true for you, when you think about it. Color is such an integral part of our daily experience that we don’t really notice it consciously. I’m hoping to open our eyes (yes, mine too) to the magic that can happen as we develop our ability to truly see and be inspired by colors, and from there, to create beauty in our daily lives by applying what we see, according to our own perspectives, desires, and skills.

An example: Let’s say you’re out for a walk on a spring day, just after a rain shower stops. You snap a quick photo of a blue hydrangea flower. Back at home, you open up the photo, zoom in, and suddenly you see much more than shades of blue — there are hints of periwinkle, lavender, an almost-white-but-really-icy-pale-blue color you can’t think of a name for… and then there are all the greens in the foliage too! An entire bathroom, or website, or Instagram series of posts could be based on the palette derived from that one photo. For that matter, many palettes could be created, depending on which hue you choose as the primary one.

And yes, I’m talking about the hydrangea photo in the Photo Palette pack shown below. The palette and mosaic background that make this a coordinated set are just the beginning of what that one photo can generate… what will YOU create?

NEW! Digital Product Collections

Whether you’re a professional designer (graphic, interior, textile, etc.) or you just want to easily create professional-quality social media posts, Colormusing’s new digital products will give you more than just color inspiration — you’ll get color spec information for each palette that comes with every collection!

The color specs — CMYK values and hex numbers — will come in so handy, you’ll find yourself reaching for them over and over to quickly complete your designs. (I’m using them myself right now to create this website!)

I just started offering these digital products in November 2020, and I’m adding new sets almost daily; as of January 2021, I have my signature Palette Papers sets, Design Sets, and Photo Palette packs (pictured). I have lots of ideas for additional product types, so subscribe below to my Hue News emailings to keep up with all the new palettes and products I’m making for you!

Inspiration. Creation. Application.

Again, it’s all about the palette — the hues — for me. In this case, rather than using the palette itself, I transformed the photo into an incredibly pixelated version of itself to create the fabric design. But the process of creating the palette, distilling all the colors down to just 5, helps me to focus on the primary colors I want to highlight. Surprisingly, the golden yellow in the palette became the main color for me, so after having the fabric custom-printed (thank you, Spoonflower!), I chose to feature the yellow part at the neckline of this top I made.
